Our Philosophy

Any lawyer can advise a client what he or she can’t do. At Smyth & Mason, we tell clients what they can do. We identify our clients’ goals and then help them accomplish those goals by finding practical solutions.

As experienced litigators, we understand the benefits and the risks of litigation. A lawsuit is a disruptive distraction for businesses and individuals alike. When we take on a case, our clients trust us to protect their flanks so they can focus on building and maintaining their businesses and their futures. We avoid fights when we can, but once we’re in a fight, we are in it to win.

If we can help structure business dealings to avoid litigation altogether, we will. And if the risks and costs of litigation — either economic or emotional — are not in our client’s best interests, we’ll say so.

We are selective. If we don’t think a case is a good fit with our philosophy, we won’t take it. Once retained, however, we commit ourselves and our resources to providing the highest quality legal services available anywhere.
